Koinophobia

What if the sum of all social fears did not exist and you could be anything but ordinary?
Imagine a world with no social rules, a world where the handbook of what norms are no longer exists.

It is no secret that most of my art is conceptualised in my subconscious and that many of my ideas come from the dreams that I have.  In these dream states I have the liberty to explore an alternative universe, far from what we face in the real world.  The idea behind this photoshoot was to turn my dreams into reality and to touch on some of the challenges I have had to face while establishing myself as a true creative, or in other people's opinion, a weirdo.

My inspiration for the colour palette was taken from one of the many mesmerising sunrises we have in Cape Town.  Watching a sunrise is a journey on its own and if you allow it, it will take you to places beyond your wildest dreams – a place I often visit.  During this golden hour, your eyes are met with hues of purple, blue and a hint of periwinkle – for the whimsical.  These subdued and calming colours known to convey optimism and passion ultimately formed the foundation for my new utopia with admissible imperfections.
We live in a world where we are judged daily on our appearances, our lifestyles, the colour of our skin, our sexual preferences and more.  In this new utopia these social injustices no longer exist.
It is okay to be you, to be homosexual, to be androgynous, to not know - to just be.

This utopia knows no racial or sexual discrimination and embraces just one thing, the human race.
I genuinely believe that the skin we were born in was merely an initial layer to this vessel we have been given.  A mere shell our souls get to travel in.  It is our choice how we want to decorate these vessels and steer them through this journey called life.  Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, it does not change the fact that you are HUMAN.  A human who is free to explore and experiment.  A human not afraid to push and even break boundaries without explanation.
A human that wants to be extraordinary and embraces the abnormal.  In the words of world-renowned designer Tom Ford:
People will stare.  Make it worth their while.
